Every year, the European Commission announces a specific motto to serve as the cultural theme of the year. For 2009 the motto is Creativity & Innovation : Having obtained the Commission’s approval, the Province of Limburg intends to celebrate this motto by organising a three-day international conference in Maastricht, The Netherlands, along with an international programme of events in the Euroregion, encompassing the cities of Liège and Hasselt (Belgium), Aachen (Germany) and Maastricht, Heerlen and Sittard-Geleen (Netherlands).
The aim of the conference is twofold. It will not only celebrate the motto, but also showcase both Maastricht and its environs and acquaint local residents with the many aspects of creativity and innovation in an international, cross-border context. The conference will also spotlight Maastricht’s aim of becoming the European Capital of Culture in 2018.
The conference will bring together international visitors and encourage them to interact in interesting ways. It will create a platform for curiosity, discovery, and inspiration. The conference programme, which features various fascinating speakers (see also “Citymaking involves balancing order and chaos”, Ed.), is divided into six original and creative themes: borderless creativity, co-creation and open innovation, education and the new learning, spaces of creativity, local creativity, and civic creativity. Your knowledge and expertise and your active contribution to the programme are naturally vital to the whole. In short, this will be a fascinating conference that you won’t want to miss.
